The 14th Annual Trinity Community Day Golf Outing:
~ Now renamed! ~
The Bishop George E. Councell Memorial Golf Tournament
This year’s golf event – The Bishop George E. Councell Memorial Golf Outing – was a wonderful experience…for golfers, diners, contributors and winners…not to mention the bottom line. Estimated, but fairly accurate tallies, suggest that our 14th golf outing may have been the most successful yet, financially. This is due in no small part to the late arriving Title Sponsor, Glenmede Investment and Wealth Management Corporation. Glenmede is the firm that handles the investment portfolio of the Diocesan Investment Trust. Glenmede expects to continue as the Title Sponsor going forward, as well.
In total, the golf outing has produced over $330,000 for Cathedral programs over its fourteen year run.
Playing in moist, drizzly conditions all day, 94 golfers took to the fairways, greens and occasional high fescue for some exciting results. Tee-off followed the Eucharist held adjacent to the 18th green, and featured a homily offered by The Rev. Bruce Montgomery, Rector, St. Martin’s, Bridgewater. The homilist each year is the rector of the church that won the Bishop’s Cup the previous year. Quite happily, Father Bruce will be next year’s preacher, also, since St. Martin’s was a repeat winner with the best score ever recorded by the Bishop Cup winners! This team also won the Canon Chuck Perfater Par-Three Contest, which is an integral component of the eighteen hole round of “shamble” golf. A number of individuals also won prizes in the form of gift certificates to the pro shop for their performances.
The evening activities, which followed immediately after conclusion of golf, were noteworthy by virtue of the attendance of Mrs. Ruth Councell, who was very pleased to be present for the wrap-up of the very first outing which has been established as a memorial to her dear husband, Bishop George Councell. Ruth was very pleased to take part in the presentation of the Bishop’s Cup. (Please enjoy some photos of the day's events, below, courtesy of Chris Gregory of Clutch Shot Pro.)
The silent auction, the raffle, the awarding of prizes, the food and goodwill of all contributed to a splendid evening. Over twenty-five members of the Cathedral family were part of these activities. ~ Canon Chuck Perfater
