Prison Ministries

Angel Tree

For six of the past seven years, Trinity Cathedral has ministered to prisoners and their families through the Angel Tree® program of Prison Fellowship® by providing Christmas presents to children on behalf of an incarcerated parent. By receiving a gift and a loving message from a parent who is in prison, a child knows that he or she is still loved and remembered. This year, we served twenty-one (21) children in support of fourteen (14) prisoners. Since the first year of our participation as an Angel Tree church in 2011, we have served a total of one-hundred and eleven (111) children and fifty-seven (57) prisoners. The Christmas gifts were delivered to the homes of our Angel Tree families, and we were able to include warm socks and Gospel materials for the children and their caregivers.
We continue to be blessed by wonderful volunteers who demonstrate so much generosity and commitment to this ministry. There were quite a few new faces in our pool of volunteers this year. For so freely donating your resources of time, talent, and treasure, for going the extra mile to make sure gifts are delivered, and for offering your presence and compassion to caregivers who may be overwhelmed by the despair and added responsibilities resulting from a loved one’s incarceration, we can’t thank you enough.

Re-Entry Program:  The Rescue Mission of Trenton

Trinity Cathedral has had a presence in the “TEACH” program at the Rescue Mission of Trenton since 2008. TEACH offers educational classes to Rescue Mission residents who are transitioning to freedom after release from the prison system. Classes include GED preparation, computer skills, and life skills training. In the computer skills area, up to five students at a time use modern computers in a renovated workspace, working on individually tailored exercises to match their personal skill level. Training includes the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access), and is focused on improving employment prospects. But this is also a ministry of presence: Some of the participants have been incarcerated for a decade or more, and are very grateful for the volunteers’ time and commitment to help them reintegrate. Deacon Chris Cox is a regular volunteer, with Jon Carl Lewis faithfully substituting when Chris is on travel. This is a very rewarding ministry, so please don’t hesitate to ask Chris or Jon Carl for more information if you feel so called.
