The Bishop George E. Councell Memorial Golf Tournament

It was another good time, in spite of the misty weather. Congratulations to St. Martin's Church, Bridgewater, the winners of the 2020 Bishop's Cup! Enjoy the slideshow below, with some highlights of the day (Courtesy of Chris Gregory at Clutch Shot Pro Photography) . . .

This year’s golf event – The Bishop George E. Councell Memorial Golf Outing – was a wonderful experience for golfers, diners, contributors and winners . . . not to mention, the bottom line! Estimated figures indicate that our 16th golf outing will be one of the most successful financially, netting approximately $35,000. This is due in no small part to our Title Sponsor, Glenmede Investment and Wealth Management Corporation. Glenmede is the firm that handles the investment portfolio of the Diocesan Investment Trust.  In total, the golf outing has produced over $390,000 for Cathedral programs over its sixteen year run.

Even though this year's outing was postponed from Columbus Day until October 26th, and in spite of inclement weather the day of the outing, 60 golfers from around the Diocese took to the fairways, greens and occasional high fescue on the Mercer Oaks East Course.

Tee-off followed the worship service that was moved inside rather than on the adjacent 18th green, and featured a homily offered by The Rev. Dr. Kent Walley, Rector of St. Luke's, Gladstone. The homilist each year is the rector of the church that won the Bishop’s Cup the previous year. St. Martin's, Bridgewater was the winner of the Cup this year (the foursome included Todd Hendrickson, Clay Kellam, Peter Kozubal and Lou Renda).

The evening activities, which followed immediately after golf, were ripe with spirit and fellowship, of course practicing social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The silent auction, the raffle, the awarding of prizes, the food and goodwill of all contributed to a splendid evening. Over twenty members of the Cathedral family were part of these activities. It is with great appreciation that our golf committee
is recognized: Rev. Dr. Hugh Brown, III, Tom DiMuzio, Alan Erickson, Willie Coleman, Patrice D’Angelo, Bill Harmer, Van Gibson, La'Tonya Johnson, Susan Zitofsky, Dick Koenig and Dean John. Special thanks to Bob Conte (ad book production), Ann Notte (ad book printing), Chris Gregory (photography), Georgia Koenig, Ginny Harmer and Fay Manicke for their contributions.

Respectfully submitted,
Dick Koenig
